A grant of $50,000 was approved in 1908 but this building, designed by Architect Hood & Scott, wasn't built until 1912. It's a good example of the Classical Revival style, which was popular from the late 1880s to the 1930s. It is constructed of red brick and limestone, featuring large arched windows with prominent keystones, and a massive entrance in the classical style.
When Fort William and Port Arthur amalgamated to become the City of Thunder Bay in 1970, this became the Thunder Bay Public Library. It is now the Brodie Resource Library of the Thunder Bay Public Library (System). (
