This plaque to York’s Georgia Battery (CSA), is in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. It marks their location on Sunday, September 20, 1863 from 11:45 AM until about 1:15 PM. The battery was commanded by 1st Lieut. William S. Everett. The text on the plaque is red indicating this was a Confederate unit.

Text on the plaque:

York’s Georgia Battery
Two 6-PDR., Two 12-PDR. Howitzers
Johnson’s Brigade, Johnson’s Division, Longstreet’s Corps.
Sept. 20, 1863

1st Lieut. William S. Everett, Commanding.
2nd Lieut. Francis M. Blount.
2nd Lieut. W. R. Jackson.

After being engaged about 10:30 PM east of the Brotherton’s
the battery followed its brigade in the Brotherton Field,
soon after 11 AM firing a few rounds, and then advancing to a
position near the Dyer House, where it fired one round, when
it again advanced to this ridge about 11:45 AM, and opened
fire upon a part at the Union artillery and trains escaping
through the Vittetoe Gap. One gun was run forward to a knoll
in the Vittetoe Field, to fire through the gap. Between 1:15
and 1:45 PM the battery left this position and advanced to
the attack on Snodgrass Ridge.

Note
Trailhead Graphics, Inc. has produced a map of the Chickamauga Battlefield showing the locations of all of the monuments and the markers on the battlefield. Each location on the map has a number associated with it that cross-references to an index on the back of the map that has the name of the marker (called the Chick-Chatt NMP monument numbering system). This number corresponds to the structure Number listed on the NPS List of Classified Structures that is normally prefixed with the letters MT for the Chickamauga Battlefield.
