The National Orphan Train Complex guest book is just inside the entrance to the library/gift shop. The National Orphan Train Complex is one of those places that few have heard about, but one that those who have visited will never forget. Using a 1917 Union Pacific Railroad Station as a museum, it tells the story of the estimated 200,000 orphaned, abandoned, and homeless children from the big cities who were placed out between 1854 and 1929, during what is known today as the Orphan Train Movement. The children were transported to their new homes on trains which were eventually labeled “orphan trains.” The museum tells their story, while the library and research center is a depository of everything pertaining to that story. This is definitely one of those "do not miss" places.
