This work depicts the Vairocana seated on a lotus pad with legs crossed and eyes closed. The placard at the site continues:
"Vairocana Buddha
Bronze, partially gilded
North China, 16th-17th century, Ming Dynasty
Vairocana, the Buddha of Light, is the supreme manifestation of the
Buddha principla. He embodies millions of worlds with millions of
Buddhas. In later Chinese Buddhist art he is often represented with
a crown with five Buddhas, and clasped hands with two fingers
stretched, symbolizing his teaching of the Avatamsaka Sutra, ot
Flower Ornament Scripture."
