This Buddhist temple occupies a nondescript building on the west side of Phoenix. The first Buddhist temple was established in the Phoenix area in 1933 by the Japanese-American community. The temple was closed after the outbreak of World War II when the leaders and minister were interred. Following the war, the temple was revitalized. In 1957 the temple was accidentally destroyed by fire and the current temple building was constructed in 1961.
