The "Sgt. Maj. Thawee Folk Museum", is the creation of Sgt. Maj. Thawee, a local and long time resident of the city and province of Phitsanulok, in northern Thailand. It is a large, well designed, and impressive local museum, which showcases the contemporary culture and the recent history of the region. The museum is located a little to the south of the city centre, reachable on foot or on bike.
The museum has three main display rooms. The historical displays are mainly photographs of people and events stretching back a century or so. The cultural displays are largely of every day objects, ranging from cooking utensils to farming equipment to garments. Copious English language signage.
Entry is a modest 50 baht for adults ($1.50), though there are lots of donation boxes around. Also expect to be inundated with school students if you visit on a school day. The museum and the Sgt. Major have won several awards from the Thai government. An interesting and fun museum, worth a visit.
