"Guided by the leaves dusting the trail, hikers and equestrians can wander under the Preserve's forest canopy and relish all of the wonderful sights and smells. The resident banana slugs and ladybirds often join human trail users. Be sure to visit the truly impressive "Big Tree," one of the few remaining old-growth redwoods.

Visitors will also want to explore the rolling grassland ridges. As the wind whistles past, look overhead - raptors can usually be seen soaring on the updrafts above. A variety of other wildlife that make their homes here, including coyotes, deer, and bobcats, may even be seen. A trip to La Honda Creek wouldn't be complete without a stop at the vista point. The panoramic view of the seemingly never-ending valleys leading to the coast is spectacular. On a clear day, visibility extends to the ocean."
