The Karlevi Stone is one of the most remarkable rune stones in Sweden. It contains a poem written in "drottkvät" - a special verse form. This is the only poem surviving in its original form. Drottkvät means 'poem to a chieftain' and the poem tells of 'king of the sea strong in battle' named Sibbe, who has died. He is likened to Odin - the foremost AEsir god. Sibbe was probably a chieftain in Öland and the stone was raised on his property. But the stone did not originate in Öland. The rosk type is found on the other side of the straits, Kalmarsund. The rune stone dates back to around AD 1000, and was raised at a time of transition between AEsir faith and Christianity. On the back of the stone you can read NONIN...EH, a corrupted form IN NOMINE IHESU - In Jesus' name.
