"Buffalo Bill", as he was known, was the co-founder of the town of Rome, Kansas in 1867 which was the precursor to modern Hays. While Rome no longer exists as a town, there is a marker at the Rome townsite which is just a mile from the location of this statue.
This larger than life half statue is from a light colored stone, and sits on a brick base. Wild Bill has his arms crossed, while his head shows his trademark pointed beard and long hair. He wears a belted, long-sleeved jacket, collared shirt and cowboy hat.
