Pau Pau Tunnel 26 00 - Long Distance Hiking Trails on Waymarking.com

Disc is one of over 20 located on the wall of the tunnel, about hip height, alongside the walk path.
Constructed in 1848 as part of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, the Paw Paw Tunnel is 3,118 feet long and allowed the canal to "shortcut" several bends in the Potomac River. Located in Maryland, the tunnel is just across the river from the town of Paw Paw, West Virginia. The canal system was abandoned in 1924 and the tunnel is now part of the National Park Service's C&O Canal Towpath. The tunnel provides an interesting, perhaps exciting, experience for bikers and hikers, many of whom make the trek from Georgetown to Cumberland.
