In Holbrook, at the corner of Union Street and North Franklin Street, is the Holbrook Square Historic District.

The Holbrook Square Historic District covers the block along North Franklin Street, from Union Street to Linfield Street. The district includes three distinctive buildings: the white clapboard building that is the Winthrop Congregational Church, the large brick building that is the Holbrook Town Hall and the smaller brick structure that is the fire station. In addition, the green square to the south is also included.

Holbrook was established on February 29, 1872, when it was split from the town of Randolph. It was named after the main benefactor, Elisha N. Holbrook, who put up $50,000 to build the new town hall, to establish a public library (originally housed in the town hall), and town debts from the remaining funds. The original town hall for the new town was built soon afterward. A church that was built in the early 1800s was located where the green is today, which was later abandoned. Another church was built near the present day Winthrop Church around 1856. In 1877, a fire burned down both the town hall and the remaining church adjacent to it. Both were rebuilt around 1878.

The church is the most northern of the buildings, and the only one made of wood. Compared to the darker structures to the south, this church is 'brilliant' in the bright light. The structure has a bell/clock tower and a tall spire.

The town hall is the middle building. It has beautiful arched windows lined with stone. There is a dated stone at the center on the 2nd floor level.

The fire station is a small brick building with a garage door for the fire truck.

The town green is a sloping landscaped area that features an installation of war monuments, with a Civil War soldier monument as the center piece.

Parking is available at the town hall.
