The arch was built in 1982 accordingly to the concept of the sculptor A. Skoblikov and the architect I. Ivanov, amongst others.
It has a diamater of 50 m (164 ft), it is rainbow-shaped and made of titanium.
From Wikipedia:
"Underneath the Friendship Arch there are two statues: one which is made of bronze and depicts a Russian and Ukrainian worker holding up the Soviet Order of Friendship of Peoples and the other is made from granite and depicts the participants of the Pereyaslav Council of 1654.
There is a viewing deck there where most of the east bank can be viewed, Troieschyna and towards the north of the city, Podil and Obolon."
