Big Spruce Overlook - Highland Scenic Drive of Monongahela National Forest - Marlinton, West Virginia
Big Spruce Overlook is located on top of Black Mountain, the site of previous logging and later, wildfires. The overlook is named Big Spruce, due to the trees logged from the mountain during the 1900s. You can utilize the interpretive, universally accessible trail to see about the re-growth of Spruce trees on Black Mountain.
As with all overlooks on the Highland Scenic Drive, there is a barrier-free shelter, as well as a vault restroom facility here.
The road to the overlook at this point is closed in the winter, commerical trucks are not permitted and the maximum speed on the parkway is 45 miles per hour.
