The bridge at Cienega Creek was constructed to provide safe travel over the steep walled Cienega Creek and the Southern Pacific Railroad. Construction started in 1920 and was completed in March of 1921. The bridge style is Open Spandrel Arch over the Creek and two span concrete girder viaduct over the railroad. The bridge was utilized as part of the East / West traffic on U.S. Highway 80 until the completion of Interstate 10 in the early 1960's. The original guard rails were replaced in the 1970's with a safer system.
