The more obvious black on white ghost sign on
the side of a building in High Street at Broadstairs reads;
CHILDS & SMITH / F.A.I. / CHARTERED AUCTIONEERS / & /
ESTATE AGENTS
The F.A.I. stood for the Fellow of the Auctioneers Institute, now
apparently defunct. Childs & Smith are shown in the 1913 Kelly's Directory at 9,
Station gates, Broadstairs, Kent.
The second, more 'modern' advertisement painted over the CHILDS & SMITH advert
in red reads;
WORSFOLD & HAYWARD.
They were also auctioneers and estate agents, but seem to be an
older firm than Childs & Smith, being listed with offices in Dover as far back
as 1881.
