This compass rose not only has 8 compass points but arrows pointing to the sea area around the coast of Britain used in the Shipping Forecast.

The rose is situated on the promenade at Filey and has a small fountain in the middle of it.

There are 31 sea areas around the cost of Great Britain and the arrows on the rose show the names of the areas. The areas were originally named in 1949, but there have been modifications since.
In one of my picture there is an area call Finisterre. This name changed in 2002 to Fitzroy (the founder of the Met Office) to avoid confusion with the Spanish peninsula called Finisterre.
