EN: Chapel St. Martin is located in the center of the rural municipality Bättwil. It was built in 1744 and was called Herz-Jesus-Kapelle. In 1789 the inhabitants of Bättwil were allowed to have their own local cemetery in the churchyard; it is not stated where the funerals were before, most probably in neighboring Witterswil. In 1791 the chapel was renamed to St. Martin and in 1808 Bättwil and Witterswil merged to build a combined parish.
The chapel is not very large, it has place for maybe about 50-100 peaople. The relief figure of St. Martin next to the entrance was created by Eugène Renggli in 1990.
DE: Die Kapelle St. Martin befindet sich im Zentrum der ländlichen Gemeinde Bättwil. Sie wurde 1744 erbaut und hiess zu Beginn Herz-Jesu-Kapelle. Im Jahre 1789 erhielten die Einwohner von Bättwil das Recht auf einen eigenen Friedhof, es wird nicht gesagt, wo zuvor die Beerdigungen waren, wahrscheinlich im benachbarten Witterswil. Im Jahre 1791 wurde die Kapelle in St. Martin umbenannt und im Jahr 1808 wurden die Kirchgemeinden von Bättwil und Witterswil zusammengeführt.
Die Kapelle ist nicht sehr groß, es hat Platz für ca. 50-100 vielleicht peaople. Das Relief Figur des St. Martin neben dem Eingang wurde von Eugène Renggli im Jahre 1990 erstellt.
