On Highway 62 west of the town of Prague, Johnny Behrnes Memorial Park is a lovely sight to see. This is a large park, with walking trails, a gazebo and beautiful landscaping.
We came upon this rose garden with its sign PRAGUE ROSE GARDEN CLUB, and a small sign indicating that the garden was cared for by the Prague FFA.
In researching this garden, we found this blog by someone who calls himself Rev. Roses. He tells the story of how so often rose gardens are planted and then interest wanes and the gardens fall into disrepair. This had happened to the Prague garden. Being a lover of flowers, he took it upon himself to work in the garden, pulling out the weeds and grass, and planting over 25 rose bushes until the garden was resurrected into what you see today.
Excerpts from this blog indicate that "the garden consists of three beds: two 10 foot by 8 foot small plots on each end with a roughly 40 foot by 8 foot center section." (

Rev. Roses has been spending an hour or two each week in the garden and has planted: "7 Fairy, 3 Popcorn, 2 Graham Thomas, 2 Lavender Lassie, 1 DayDream, 1 St. Swithun, 1 Heritage, 1 Abraham Darby, 1 Twister, 2 Autumn Splendor, 1 Seattle Scentsation, 1 Reine des Viollette, 1 Precious Dream, and 1 Marti Gras."
He is hoping to re-spark interest in the garden club and keep this rose garden well stocked and cared for. This is a beautiful garden.
