My first ride on the Sam Patch was an occasion where the boat was chartered for a wedding!
The typical tour takes passengers west along the Erie Canal (technically it is the Barge Canal, which is the name of the second Erie Canal expansion) through Lock 32, then turns around in the widewaters to the west, and takes you through the lock again and back. The views along the way are very pleasant: mostly the Erie Canal easements, and the towpath, which was converted to a paved, multiuse trail where people ride bikes, in-line skate, walk, jog, and walk their dogs. Occasionally, you can see individual backyards and private docks and commercial buildings. Going through a working lock, though, is clearly "the sight" in many people's sight-seeing adventure.
