Madison County was created from Fremont County by the Idaho Legislature on February 18, 1913 and was ratified by a vote of county residents on November 7, 1913. The current two-story brick Beaux Arts style Courthouse building was completed in December 1920. The was built by contractor Charles Zollinger and was designed by architect C. A. Sundberg. The building was placed on the National Register on September 22, 1987.
