The pleasant small town of Lampang, in northern Thailand, has a major primary school named after the last King of the province. This school, as do all in the Kingdom, has a shrine (in fact, this school has two shrines, but we will only concern ourselves with this shrine), and this shrine is guarded by two "Singha" lions.
These lions flank the main entrance to the shrine, are white in colour, wear an elaborate harness, and are ~1m tall. They stand on a plinth facing outwards.
These lions are 'Asian' lions, more specifically Hindu, Indian lions, whose imagery has spread throughout China, eastern and south eastern Asia. They are usually found guarding royal palaces and notable public buildings. They also adorn Singha Beer. In Thailand the word is pronounced "Singh" ("Sing").
