The building is a story red brick structure done in the Classical Revival style of other similar buildings constructed in Kansas of this type and time frame. The main floor was a large auditorium, smaller rooms were used to house the city government.
Across the front of the building, are the words, Memorial City Hall. As would be fitting a building with such a name, it was dedicated on May 31, 1926, which was Memorial Day. Over the years many events were held in the auditorium, including a performance by the Lawrence Welk Band. Currently it is serving as the home of the Ellis Railroad Museum, as well as the place where various entities hold meetings.
