This red brick building on a side street in Ellis houses the city offices and the fire department. The prior city hall still stands on the main street through town. Ellis was fist established as a railroad water stop, growing into a town, and for some five years served as a shipping point for the cattle herds being driven up from the south.
It was also the boyhood home of Walter P. Chrysler, and where he learned the mechanical skill that led him to found the Chrysler Corporation. Today I-70 passes by the town, and as so often happens, the downtown has its share of vacant buildings as motorists frequent the businesses near the I-70 interchange.
