The sculpture, which is about 2 feet tall, depicts an emaciated man entangled in barbed wire.
The placard accompanying the work reads:

"PALAWAN: US POW MARTYR

Bronze Sculpture by
Don Schloat

Commemortaive memorial for the 147 American
POW's burned to death on December 14, 1944 at the
Philippine town of Puerto Princesa, Palawan Island
during WW II.

The sculptor, Don Schloat, had also been a POW at
Puerto Princesa before the massacre and knew
many of those who perished."
