I was at an awards celebration at the school when I noticed the monument. I asked a gentleman passing by if he could tell me anything about the memorial.
"That's for my little brother," said Brian Donovan. "He was one of the youngest to reach his rank. He was doing a duty rotation at the Pentagon." His two sisters also still live in the area, and both his parents were alive at the time.
The memorial reads:
"In memory of
Cmdr. William
"Billy" Donovan
Keshequa Central
Class of '82
Sept. 11, 2001
"We will remember""
with a flag image engraved in the bottom right corner.
The memorial was placed at the base of the flagpole, and the lawn between the flagpole and the street was replaced with a stone garden, with two long rows of white stone to depict the twin towers, and red stone in the void.
