The Rice County Courthouse was constructed beginning in 1910 and completed in 1911. The four-story brick courthouse was designed by architect J.C. Holland, a noted Kansas architect who designed several courthouses in Kansas. The courthouse is in a Richardsonian Romanesque style. The brick courthouse has limestone trim and a hipped roof. The courthouse features a central clock tower with clocks on each side.
The courthouse underwent extensive renovations between 1972 and 1982 and is in excellent condition and continues to serve as the county courthouse for the predominately rural county in central Kansas.
