The Toronto Zoo has different sections based on geographic origins of animals and plants...and culture.
The African section includes an area intended to resemble a game preserve called Kesho Park. It includes a ranger station, safari vehicles, camping tents, etc. This thatched cottage is included to show how some people in Africa who need to travel with their animals... make temporary homes made of sticks, dung, mud and grass. In this case, the grass is so course.... it really could be described more as reeds.
