This clock is a magnificent piece of art and design. It is located at the centre of the northern Thai city of Chiang Rai at the intersection of Jetyod Road and Phahonyothin Road. In appearance the clock is a 15m high tower, and crafted in a fluid, complex shape, reminiscent of the design of Thai Buddhist temples. It is gold in colour, but at night a light show changes its apparent colour to red, green, and blue.
The tower was designed by the Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat. The tower is built of concrete, steel, golden paint and mirror tiles. It was dedicated in 2008 to the Thai King Rama IX.
Locals will tell tourists that the clock 'walks' at night, when no one is watching, but I do not believe.
