The sculpture was created by pioneer Dodge City dentist, Dr. Oscar Simpson, DDS. He had his old pioneer lawman friend, Joe Sughrue lay in a box which he filled with plaster to make a mold. Then he filled the mold with concrete to make the sculpture. It has been on display since 1929 in front of the former city hall on boothill in Dodge City. The sculpture is representative of the cowboys of the oldwest wearing a broadbrim cowboy hat and holding a pistol in his hand.
