At this location are two plaques. The first indicating that this is location of the "Plantation site of Tunis Hood." The second is dedicated to "Minnie Mae Hood" Presley. "Minnie Mae Hood" was the daughter of William Hood, Granddaughter of Joshua Hood, Great-Granddaughter of William Hood, Great-Great Granddaughter of John Hood, and Great-Great-Great Granddaughter of Tunis Hood who settled in Mint Hill in 1775. This family has an amazing family tree dating back to before 1700 in New York.

You can find these plaques in the back center of Hoods Crossroads Shopping Center boarding Mint Hill & Matthews, North Carolina on Highway 51. The plaques indicate that this was the Plantation site of Tunis Hood (1719-1797). A Patriot, Leader, Pioneer that settled here in 1775. This wall was placed here in honor of Minnie Mae Hood (June 17, 1890-May 8, 1980), the Grandmother of Elvis Presley (Jan. 8, 1935 - Aug. 16, 1977)

This is a hidden gem that very few people stop to see.

More info on Grandmother of Elvis Presley. Minnie Mae Hood was born in Fulton, Itawamba County, Mississippi, to William and Mary (Warren) Hood. She married Jessie D. McClowell Presley in 1913. They had one child, Vernon Elvis Presley. After Elvis' mother died, Minnie and Vernon went to Germany and rented a house close to the base where Elvis was stationed. He wanted his family near him in their time of grief. Elvis loved his grandmother very much and often talked about her wonderful buttermilk biscuits. She was said to be a very energetic person and hard worker. She died in Memphis at the age of 89.
