This campsite is one of the more remote in terms of vehicle access. It is described in some detail here by the Dept Of Conservation; [http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-stay/conservation-campsites-by-region/fiordland/eastern-fiordland/south-arm-campsite-lake-manapouri/], but I find this to a little inaccurate in that there is no longer any tap for water. Water has to be gotten from the Lake. Boil it if you are unsure. There are toilets there but even they can be a bit dubious. The campsites themselves are not maintained and it really is a case of just throwing up a tent on the flatest, driest, open bit of ground that you can find. Slowly but surely the bush is reclaiming the area and the Dept of Conservation is just letting it go. That aside and the swarms of Sandflies resident here, it is a most beautiful area with few visitors. Access is via the Borland Road which is closed off in the winter months. Frequented by Hunters and Fisherman occassionally with a few people turning up there by boat. A great place to get away from it all.
