Wollongong is the third largest city in NSW & the court house reflects its importance & history. The court house includes both the original structure & modern additions. It celebrated its centenary in 1986.

A Court of Petty Sessions has been conducted in Wollongong since 1832, initially at the former court house in Harbour St.
