On the sunny southern slope of mount Catogne, facing the incomparable panorama of the lake and the Grand Combin lies the beautiful alpine garden of Champex. Meandering paths wind between brilliantly coloured rock gardens and lead the visitor over streams and tranquil pools. Whether you are in the area for an afternoon or a fortnight, are eight or eighty-eight, an avid botanist or casual walker, the colours, perfumes and everpresent splash of water will make your visit an unforgettable experience.
Forget the stress of modern life as you admire the magnificent view down to Champex Lake and on beyond to the snowy peaks of the Combins etched against the sky. Bubbling streams and waterfalls soothe with their ceaseless murmur. More than three thousand plants native to the Alps and to mountain chains worldwide are to be found here, spread over several thousand square metres on predominantly granite rock. They have been carefully and patiently collected and cultivated for over several decades and include mountain rhododendrons, saxifrages, primulas, houseleeks and conifers.
