Moorefield

Chartered, 1777, and named for Conrad Moore, early settler. During Indian wars, Town Fort, north, and Fort Buttermilk, south, gave protection. Here, 1794, General Biggs brought part of the troops recruited to suppress Whiskey Rebellion.
