This memorial is located in a small plaza on the grounds of the Hilton Newark Penn Station.

Located in a plaza that seems to be rarely used in front of the Hilton Newark across the street from Penn Station, this memorial is set in a short granite plinth.
The plaque on the front has an engraving of Basilone and the years 1916 and 1945, the rest reads:
"IN MEMORIAM
GUNNERY SERGEANT JOHN A. BASILONE
UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS
FOR EXTRAORDINARY HEROISM AND CONSPICUOUS GALLANTRY ABOVE AND
BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY SERGEANT BASILONE BECAME THE FIRST ENLISTED
MARINE IN WORLD WAR II AWARDED THE CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR
AND, POSTHUMOUSLY, THE NAVY CROSS. HIS UNSELFISH DEVOTION TO THE IDEALS AND PRINCIPLES OF OUR NATION WAS IN KEEPING WITH THE HIGHEST
TRADITION OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
THIS PLAQUE, SPONSORED BY THE MELVIN SPITZ CHAPTER THREE DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS, NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, MADE POSSIBLE THROUGH THE GENEROSITY OF OUR CITIZENS, DEDICATED TO ONE OF AMERICA'S VALIANT SONS, HONORS ALL FROM NEW JERSEY WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE IN WORLD WAR II."
The back of the plinth has a plaque which has a plain circle and the words "DEPT. OF P.P.P. NEARK, NEW JERSEY"
