The James H. Ward House at 403 8th Street was build in 1883. This house was built by contractor James Ward as his own home. The house is one of New Mexico's finest Italianate Villas. The house features light-colored round arch window molding stones which contract with the precision-cut brownstone walls. The house has a square corner tower with a mansard roof and cast-iron cresting. the original cast-iron balcony and fence remain intact.

The house is in very good condition and continues to serve as private residence.
