These boats are not really replicas of Admiral Yi's famous turtle boats, but neither are they totally modern. Nonetheless, the provide a picturesque and nostalgic cruise that takes passengers around Myeongnyang Strait and the coast of Jindo Island. This is the location of one of Admiral Yi Yun-Sin's most famous victories over the invading Japanese fleet in the late 16th century. Now, the remarkable landmark
Great Jindo Bridge spans the strait, joining Jindo to the mainland.
At the time of this visit in the spring of 2012, the scenic cruises were suspended for the duration of the International Expo in Yeosu, further east on Korea's south coast.
