Peggy Guggenheim (1898-1979) was an art dealer and collector of 20th-century art. In 1949 she moved to Venice and bought a house on the Grand Canal near the famous church of Santa Maria della Salute. When she died, she left her house and art collection to the Solomon Guggenheim Foundation (Solomon was her uncle; the famous museum in New York is name for him). The Guggenheim Collection is now Venice's premier modern-art museum.
Her ashes were buried in what is now the Nasher Sculpture Garden of the museum, next to the spot where she had buried her pet dogs.
Admission to the museum is necessary in order to visit the grave. Tickets are 12 Euros (7 for students) and are well worth it. The museum is closed Tuesdays and some holidays.
