Many people don't know this, but when Brockville was just a mere hamlet, the area now know as Victoria Park was a cemetery. As the city grew, the cemetery was moved to the outskirts of town, just north/east of the train station, then as growth occurred again, the cemeteries were relocated to the outskirts of town, where they now remain. It was told that the graves and contents were moved to the new sites, but some historians believe that perhaps the bodies were left there and remain under people walking along the path or playing on the playground.
This is kind of where the story gets a little creepy. It was reported that the house of the south/east side of the park (now a duplex), housed an invalid boy, whose room was at the top looking out a gabled window over the park. The boy was fairly well known to the locals, but one day he passed at an early age (most agree between 8-10 years of age) and he no longer looked out over the park, or did he. Not long after his passing, it was reported that people saw a pale little boy in the window, where his room once was. The boys parents had moved and the new residents of the house never reported anything untoward, but people continued to see a boy looking out the window. I remember first hearing about this story as a child (I'm now 45) and felt unseeing eyes looking at me while playing in the park. I always look up at the window when I go by, just in case he's there, looking out. I've personally never seen him, but would be interested to do so, although, I'd prefer it be during the day.
Cheers
