A tree was planted in the memory of Charles 'Charlie' Michael Wheeler, Jr. in
St. Mary's Youth Memorial Park in Great Mills, Maryland. The park was created by Thomas Edward and Agnes Langley Tippett in 1984 as a place for grieving parents and friends to remember youths of St. Mary's County who died from tragic circumstances.
According to Charlie's obituary, he grew up in Great Mills. He died in 2005. He spent much of his youth at Holy Face Church and memorial contributions were made to the Youth Ministry.
A granite marker under the tree reads:
DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF
CHARLIE
CHARLES MICHAEL WHEELER, JR.
I once was lost
but now am found
A statue of an angel is at the head of the memorial stone.
Charlie's name is also etched on one of the granite monuments that flank the Our Lady of Lourdes grotto at the entrance to the park.
