This marker is dedicated to the
Battery I, 2nd Regiment Illinois Volunteer Light Artillery and is in recognition of their service during the
Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. The battery was organized at Camp Butler near Springfield, Illinois and mustered in for a three year enlistment on December 31, 1861.
It marks their location on Saturday, September 19, 1863. The commander of the battery was Captain Charles M. Barnett.

Short Physical Description
A 6'4" x 3'2" x 3' high rock-faced rectangular granite block with an inscribed polished front on a 7'6" x 4'4" x 1'6" high granite base. The tops of both pieces are beveled. Marks unit's position near Peters House site.
