The Hexenturm is the only remaining city gate (the western gate) of the medieval city walls and the landmark of the city of Jülich.

Das Rurtor, der sogenannte Hexenturm, ist eines von ehemals drei oder vier Stadttoren in der mittelalterlichen Stadtmauer der Stadt Jülich. Erbaut wurde der Hexenturm Anfang des 14. Jahrhunderts und hatte damals viele Namen. Von "Porta Rurae" (lat. für "Rurtor"), "Rurtor", "Gefangenenthürn", "Gefängnußthurm", "Hessenturm", bis seit dem 18. Jahrhundert der heutige Name "Hexenturm" genutzt wurde.
Der Hexenturm ist ein typisches gotisches Stadttor vom Typus des Doppelturmtores. Sein Mauerwerk besteht aus Bruchsteinen, die Türme sind bis zum oberen Rand des Mauerwerkes 12,75 m hoch und das Mauerwerk hat eine Stärke von 1,60 bis 2,30 m. Die Tordurchfahrt ist 4,70 m breit und 5,20 m hoch, sie ist mit Führungen für ein Fallgitter versehen. Insgesamt 17 Schießscharten zur Armbrustverteidigung sind vorhanden. Ursprünglich besaßen die beiden Türme zinnenbewehrte Wehrplattformen, die erst im 17. Jahrhundert durch Zwiebeldächer ersetzt wurden.
Auf der Außenseite des Nordturmes ist der Anschluß der gleichzeitig entstandenen Stadtmauer zu erkennen, die an dieser Stelle 1,70 m stark war.
Im Turm befindet sich das Stadtgeschichtliche Museum Jülich.
The Rurtor (Rur Gate), the so-called Hexenturm (witches' tower), is one of the three or four gates in the medieval city walls of the city of Jülich. The Hexenturm was built in the early 14th Century and then had many names. From "Porta Rurae" (Latin for "Rur Gate"), "Rurtor", "Gefangenenthürn", "Gefängnußthurm", "Hessenturm", up from the 18th Century today's name "Hexenturm" was used.
The Hexenturm is a typical Gothic city gate tower of the type of a double gate. Its masonry consists of rough stone, the towers are up to the top of the masonry 12.75 m high and the wall has a thickness from 1.60 to 2.30 m. The gate way is 4.70m wide and 5.20m high, it is provided with guides for a portcullis. It has 17 loopholes for crossbows. Originally, the two towers had crenellated military platforms, they had been replaced with onion-shaped roofs in the 17th Century.
On the outside of the north tower, the connection of the same period city wall is seen, which had a thickness of 1.70m at this point.
In the tower is now the City History Museum of Jülich.
