Abutting Laos, and on the major land route between these two nations is the Thai provincial capital of Nong Khai. This fine city has the usual range of amenities, including a bus station. This is found on the eastern side of the city, surrounded by suburbia. There is little free space around the station, arriving and departing buses must execute some tight turns to reach the main road.
In design the station follows the standard Thai style. There is a set of ticket counters at the front of the station, then a long, rectangular covered, open, waiting area, around which buses park. Not overly busy, Nong Khai is not a transport hub, from here buses arrive and depart from the towns and villages within the province, to Bangkok, and, in the main, to the nearby city (50kms) of Udon Thani, which is a major transport hub.
