This historic one room schoolhouse sets at the intersection of Crystal Lake Rd, and Crystal Springs Rd, south of McHenry.
The simple red brick structure was named for one of the area’s first settlers, Colonel Holcombe, whose farmstead was located nearby. This "modern" schoolhouse was built in 1858. The road and intersection have been changed and it now sets back off the road somewhat. Trees and shrubbery sort of hide it from view.
