NASA 930 (KC-135A - USAF Serial Number 59-1481)
Reduced-Gravity Research Aircraft

Acquired from the United States Air Force in 1973 and placed into service as a reduced-gravity research aircraft, the primary role of NASA 930 was spacecraft hardware testing, astronaut training and microgravity research. In this role, it completed 58,000 reduced gravity maneuvers, which translates into 13 and a half days of reduced gravity. It was also used to train astronaut pilots in the handling qualities of landing a heavy aircraft (precursor to landing a Space Shuttle). NASA 930 was retired in September of 1995.

The Johnson Space Center and the City of Houston Department of Aviation placed this display as a tribute to all KC-135A flight and ground support personnel, and to all of the astronauts and test subjects who contributed so much to microgravity research.
