Roadside turnout and Historical marker placed on a boulder. There are a few trees here and a dumpster but no other facilities. This was placed to remember the Bridge bulit just north of the marker across the North Platte River. Freight traffic moved across the bridge bound for the Black Hills in the late 1800's. There was a nominal fee charged for using the bridge. A small town grew up near the bridge including a post office, brothel and saloon and was later moved to the east to become the town of Bridgeport. The only remains of the bridge are a few pilings on the south shore not visible from the highway. Also notable here is the depressions that traveling wagons and riders made between the mid 1800's and early 1900's. Look to the south of the far western tree and you can clearly see the trail remains as a depression across the prairie. The pony express trail turned south from the river at this point as well along the same trail.
