Die höchste Erhebung der Eifel bildet die hier zu besuchende "Hohe Acht" mit 747 m über NN, welche ursprünglich ein tertiärer Vulkan ist. Der Kegel besteht aus Gesteinen der Unter-Devon-Zeit (vor etwa 416 bis 397,5 Millionen Jahren), wohingegen die Kuppe aus Basalt in Form von Blockhalden besteht.
