THE EMPIRE BELL TOWER
The main building and the wings are of stone, the top is wooden. The ground floor of the tower has a cold room for the deceased as well as a room for close relatives.
Empiretapuli rakennettiin vuosina 1829 - 1831 Carl Ludvig Engelin
mukaan. Tapulin alin kerros ja siipiosat ovat kivestä, ylin osa puusta. Lisäksi kellotapulissa on omaisten huone ja vainajien säilytystila.
CARL LUDVIG ENGEL
Carl Ludvig Engel, or Johann Carl Ludwig Engel (3 July 1778 – 4 May 1840), was a German architect known for his neoclassical (empire) style. He had a great impact on the architecture of Finland in the first part of the 19th century.
His most noted work can be found in Helsinki, which he helped rebuild. His works include the Senate Square and the buildings surrounding it. The buildings are Helsinki Cathedral, The Senate (now the Palace of the Council of State), the library and the main building of Helsinki University. The square is the monumental centre of Helsinki.
BUILDING OF THE CHURCH
The Church of St. Mary in Hollola is one of the 86 Finnish stone churches completed during the Middle Ages. According to latest research, the present church – the first one built of stone instead of wood on this site – was built between the years 1495-1510: the vestry in ca. 1495, the main body in 1500, and armory after 1505.
