"Das Wirts- und Weinhaus Auracher Löchl hat seinen Namen von der alten Kufsteiner Bürgerfamilie “Auracher” erhalten, welche im 13. Jahrhundert in Kufstein ansässig war und eine Bierbrauerei betrieben. Zwischen 1410-1436 wurde der Grundstein des Hauses gelegt, genau zur gleichen Zeit, wo man ein ein Loch in den Festungsberg getrieben hat(das Löchl), ein ca. 90 m langer Stollen zur Einlagerung von Eis, das die Familie zum Brauen des Gerstensaftes benötigte. Zur Brauerei gehörte auch bald eine Bierschenke, welche den immer noch gültigen Namen “Auracher Löchl” trug. 1809 gab es in Kufstein ein großes Feuer, das die Stadt zerstörte - einzig das Auracher Löchl blieb wunderbarerweise von den Flammen verschont. Die Familie Auracher starb am Ende aus, da sie sich trotz Ihrer Erfolge in der Stadtpolitik nicht um eine anständige Nachfolge und Erben kümmerte.
Daraufhin nahm es die Familie Neuhauser in Besitz, die auch den Wein ins Löchl brachte. Heute wird das urige und berühmte Wirtshaus von der Familie Hirschhuber geführt, seit 1992 der Zillertaler Raimund Hirschhuber das Anwesen gekauft hat. Heute führt es der Sohn Richard Hirschhuber. Seine Popularität verdankt das Auracher Löchl nicht zuletzt dem "Kufsteiner Lied” (effel Verlag, München) von Karl Ganzer, er war Postbote & Hausmusikant und komponierte dieses weltbekannte Volkslied.
