Many weather stations are near and critical to airport services.
This one is near the Rogue Valley Airport. It also provides radio details for highway conditions on VHF 162.4 . This is important because I-5 passes over Mt. Ashland (4,000 ft. elev.) and the Siskiyou Mt. range entering California. [a major trucking route] There were snow flurries in April.
The station also provides local hydrological predictions that are necessary to agriculture businesses. Fire watch conditions -- critical in the local forest and recreation areas.
The station is at an elevation of 1,340 ft. Medford claims 240 days of sunshine/year. They provide flood warnings, small craft conditions, and hazardous wind conditions. www.wrh.noaa.gov.mfr
